Robopack launches enhanced permissions framework

At Robopack, every feature update begins with you—our community. Today marks a milestone as we introduce our completely redesigned permissions framework, transforming how you secure and manage access across your organization. This major overhaul delivers the precise control you’ve been asking for, combining enterprise-grade security with the flexibility modern IT teams need.

Here’s what’s new and why it matters to you:

Tailored Access with Role-Based Access Control

Robopack’s new Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) makes managing user permissions simpler and more powerful. Administrators can now tailor access to fit every role in the organization, ensuring users only see what they need—nothing more, nothing less.

Key roles include:

  • Organization Administrator: Full access to all operations in Robopack.
  • Robopatch Writer: Administer app update flows in Robopatch.
  • Package Writer: Manage, create, and import packages in Robopack.

Use case example:
You’re a global IT admin managing a distributed team. Assign the Package Writer role to your software packaging team, limiting their access to package management without exposing sensitive organizational settings. This ensures operational efficiency while maintaining a strong security posture.

Seamless integration with Entra ID

Organizations leveraging Microsoft Entra ID can now streamline sign-ins with Single Sign-On (SSO) and scale permissions through centralized role assignments. This simplifies management, reduces administrative overhead, and enhances security.

Admins can:

  • Assign roles directly via the Entra portal.
  • Manage tenant permissions for specific groups or individuals.

Use case example:
Your organization has hundreds of users spread across multiple tenants. With Entra ID role assignments, you can quickly assign permissions for a new department by using an existing security group, ensuring all users gain appropriate access without manually updating each account in Robopack.

Enhanced tenant permissions

Robopack’s new per-tenant permissions offer fine-tuned control over which users can view, configure, or deploy to specific tenants. Assign permissions to individuals, manual user groups, or Entra ID security groups, achieving the perfect balance between collaboration and safeguarding sensitive workflows.

Use case example:
You’re a managed service provider (MSP) supporting several customers. By assigning permissions per tenant, your team can manage each client’s updates and configurations securely without cross-contaminating access, ensuring compliance with customer agreements.

Streamlined security for modern organizations

We understand that security is a cornerstone of IT operations. That’s why we recommend enabling Entra ID-only sign-ins to enhance protection and simplify account management. For those still transitioning, we’ve ensured flexibility to support mixed environments.
